Walk with Gabriola Land and Trails Trust guides on the fourth organized “Trans Gabriola Trek.”

The Trek is taking place on Sunday, May 24, starting outside the Silva Bay Pub and Restaurant at 10:00 a.m.

The walk will wind through the centre of the island, mostly on trails, ending at the Surf Lodge by 3:00 p.m., where refreshments and Surf hospitality will be welcome.

Those parking at the Silva Bay end are requested to park on the water side of Silva Bay Inn so as not to interfere with the Sunday Market.

The GERTIE buses will deliver walkers back to their cars from the Surf for a small donation in the late afternoon.

Kerry Marcus with GaLTT said this is the fourth organized trek across Gabriola since GaLTT’s formation.

“Very early in our (GaLTT’s) first strategic planning session we set the goal of Descanso to Drumbeg by 2010.

“We didn’t quite make the goal, but by 2013 there were enough connections, as well as a couple of private landowners willing to permit temporary access, that the walk could occur.

“It was very popular, with approximately 75 walkers the first year. And on it goes.”

The previous three treks were: Fall of 2013: Descanso Bay Regional Park to Silva Bay

Spring 2014: Descanso Bay to Silva Bay.

Fall 2014: Silva Bay to Skol Pub.
