There will not be a Fire Board election this year, as no nominations have come forward to run against the three Trustees who are standing for re-election.

This was announced at the November 5 meeting of the Gabriola Fire Protection Improvement District.

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Fire Board had worked with the BC Ministry of Municipal Affairs to create a way to accept nominations for the three seats up for election this year on the Board.

A notice was placed in the Sounder, with a deadline of October 23 for anyone wishing to run for election to be nominated.

This year, there are three Trustees are up for re-election.

Trustees Séan Lewis, John Moeller, and Diana Moher have all agreed to stand for another three (3) year term.

With no other persons stepping forward to run for election, the three incumbents will win by acclamation and there will be no election, just the Annual General Meeting.

The AGM is being scheduled for early December.  UPDATE: the AGM will be on December 9, 2020. See notices in the Nov. 25 and Dec. 2 Sounder for details.

Due to the Provincial Health Order restricting all gatherings - including the AGMs of Improvement Districts - to no more than 50 persons, the AGM will be an RSVP meeting.

Trustees have asked staff to look into ways to record or broadcast the AGM so people who cannot attend in person can still watch.

Further information on the AGM is on page 3 of this Sounder.
