The Wednesday Women’s Choir serenade the big GERTIE bus (aka “Thomas”) for a video being put together by Jules Molloy as part of a grant application. Jules Molloy photo

Along with the regular good-time rounds, GERTIE has enjoyed two recent events: an impromptu singalong for a fundraising video, and some boisterous shuttles from the Surf to the ferry for the wine tasting festival. Thank you to Leah Hokanson for gathering her Wednesday women’s choir and leading a bumpy serenade on the big bus. We hope the forthcoming video made by Jules Molloy will garner some grant money from BC Hydro.

The GERTIE gang sends out a very grateful oenological bouquet to Alanna Meneilly and Michael Brown at the Village Liquor Store for their fine pairing: GERTIE and the wine tasting festival at the Surf on September 28. Hurray for our three drivers - Bob Andrew, Steve Jackson and Steve Earle, for their willingness to be so accommodating to the wishes of the wine tasters and the extra runs needed to get them safely to the ferry.

GERTIE is looking forward to transporting a busload of seniors to the next monthly lunch at the Rollo Centre - we’re working with the lunch bunch to make that another successful pairing of bus and event (hopefully a regular one). And speaking of seniors, we recently got a grant from the Gabriola branch of the Coastal Community Credit Union to reduce the cost of seniors’ bus tickets to $15 per book, anywhere you buy them until the end of this year.

Passes and tickets for October are now available at the usual five vendors: Silva Bay Liquor Store, the Co-Op, Village Foods, Artworks, and ABC Liquor store at Twin Beaches. A new Youth Pass for $35 is selling quickly (more to be printed), and we hope to have printed schedules available at many locations on the island by the Thanksgiving weekend.

GERTIE will be doing Art Tour runs on Sunday of the long weekend as part of the three-day Studio Tour. Watch for details on the website www.gertie.ca where you can also ask questions and find the schedule for your neighborhood. Please note that the Monday to Friday midday runs originally planned for the fall schedule will not happen until we get more drivers and/or more funding: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday still have midday runs.
