Cpl. Nathan Dame

Detachment Commander, Gabriola RCMP

12 calls for service.

October 2 - Theft. Some faucets and light fixtures were taken from a shed South Rd. An investigation of the new houses being built on Gabriola might be conducted.

October 3 - Super Sleuth.  A report was received that a vehicle drove into a parked vehicle in the village parking lot. The suspect vehicle then drove away without leaving their information. With some witness information the Gabriola RCMP attended the address belonging to the licence plate of the suspect vehicle.  The constable spoke to the occupants of the residence who denied knowing or having even heard of the registered owner. The constable was not fooled returning to the residence the next day. Low and behold he located the owner of the vehicle.  The occupants must have thought the constable was looking for someone else because no one tries to lie to the police. Boy, I says boy. I detect some deception here.

October 5 - the Gabriola Fire Department contacted the RCMP to assist with a structure fire at the Silva Bay resort. The fire was contained to the kitchen area and put out before it could damage any neighbouring buildings. Unfortunately the fire destroyed the restaurant.

The RCMP have concluded their investigation finding nothing criminal had occurred.

October 5 - The Dukes of Hazard. The Gabriola RCMP responded to a roll over collision on Tait Rd. The driver was coming off Ferne Rd and attempted to negotiate the turn onto Tait Rd but misjudged their speed. The vehicle hit the gravel, slid into the ditch and rolled onto its roof.

I believe on the TV series the driver exited through the window of the General Lee when the car was on its tires not the roof. The driver was uninjured and stated that they were not looking forward to being in the police report. So I hope the driver accepts my apologies.

Till next time Gabriola.
